Basketball - My Favourite Sport

In this post, I will be blogging on my favourite sport, "Basketball". I like the game of basketball for the simple reason of being a fast moving sport and as a team excel in the stipulated short time. This has always kept me enthralled and on the edge of my seat. Inspired by watching NBA games, I started playing Basketball. Since last year, I play as the "Power Forward" for my school basketball team by name " HLC Explorers". Under the tutelage of our school coach, Ganesh sir, it is being an exciting journey with loads of learning. Over the last two years, we have won 5 inter - school tournaments in Chennai. Every game gave me lot of takeaways both from the physical and mental aspects. In a different post, I will  write on my continuous learning through this great game of Basketball.

Basketball is a limited-contact sport played on a rectangular court, with 2 teams, each having 5 members. The main objective of the game is to shoot the basketball through a hoop 10 feet high that is mounted to a backboard at each end of the court. The game was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith.

Dr. James Naismith, who was a physical education instructor, came up with the idea of basketball when he was thinking about how he could keep his students at his gym class occupied. He nailed a peach basket onto a ten-foot elevated track. Initially, the sport was played with a soccer ball before moving on to a basketball.

The top - most basketball league is the National Basketball Association, also known as the NBA. It is a men's professional basketball league in North America, composing of 30 teams. Commencing from 6 June 1946, the NBA has produced virtuoso players such as :
Kareem Abdul - Jabbar, Karl Malone, Shaquille O' Neal, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, to name a few. The three greatest players, who many credit with ushering the game to it's highest popularity during the 1980s and the 1990s are : Larry BirdEarvin "Magic" Johnson Jr, and the god of basketball, Michael Jordan.

Basketball is a stupendous sport . I would recommend you to watch NBA matches and if possible, play basketball.

Here is a quote by the God Of Basketball, Michael Jordan :

Talent wins games,
but teamwork and intelligence wins championships
