In this blog, I wil l be writing on my most favourite hindi music composer ever,  "Rahul Dev Burman" !! Rahul Dev Burman, also known as R.D Burman, was one of hindi film music's most popular music directors and has composed for 331 films during the 1960's to 1990's. He is also credited to have revolutionized the face of Bollywood music. Few years back, I was first introduced to Burman's songs by my mother when she played out super duper hits from "Aradhana", "Kati Patang" and "Amar Prem" for me. And then I fell in love with his songs... Reasons why I am head over heels in love with Burman's music direction and songs are : 1. They have amazing tunes and beats - I don't think any other composer can produce as superb tunes as R.D Burman. They are so amazing to hear and have such an awesome beat that you can just lean back onto your chair and say, 'Vah Re Vah'(Oh! Wow!).😁 2. Wide Diversity - From class...

Gabbar Singh, here we come!!

Image
In this blog, I will be writing on a classic hindi movie which is also one of my favourites,    Sholay . Released in 1975, the movie is directed by Ramesh Sippy. The main story arc concerns two friends, Veeru(Dharmendra) and Jai(Amitabh Bachchan) who are thieves. They are hired by Thakur Baldev Singh(Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh(Amjad Khan), who was creating havoc in the village of Ramgadh. Few reasons which made me watch this movie more than three times include the location in which the movie was shot in was apt for the story. With a rocky and dry terrain, it is the perfect place for a dacoit hideout as well as hot pursuits on horses. The screenplay done in this movie is amazing. As each scene compliments each other, the suspense builds up. At one point, when Thakur Baldev Singh removes his shawl and shows that his hands have been chopped off by Gabbar Singh; I literally jumped up in consternation  and stared at the computer scree...

For these guys, college is a no brainer! - 3 Idiots

Image
In this post, I will be blogging on one of my favourite hindi movies, 3 Idiots . Released in 2009, it was the highest grossing Indian film in overseas markets with a collection of $ 30.5 million!! Directed by the critically acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani, the main story arc concerns two friends at college, Farhan(Madhavan) and Raju(Sharman Joshi), who share a close bond with their friend Rancho(Aamir Khan) After graduating from college, Rancho suddenly disappears. Years later, while searching for Rancho, they relive their college memories. A reason I love this movie is because of Rajkumar Hirani's sublime direction. He has enhanced the movie with amazing scene transition and has shot scenes jaw dropping locations. Another reason I love the movie is that all the actors have acted out their roles extremely well. An aspect I strongly believe is that apart from the lead actors the actors playing sub roles have to act well. I feel that this is made 3 idiots awesome. My favourite cha...

An ardent Rajesh Khanna fan through music

Image
Few years ago,  I watched  Rajesh Khanna  for t he first time  in the evergreen song,  "Mere Sapno ki rani" in the movie Aradhana.  The song has a superb composition with the all time greats,Music Director S.D Burman  and Lyricist Anand Bakshi . While I was nonplussed by the song, I was attracted by the antics of Rajesh Khanna, waving his arms and singing the song, atop an open jeep in a mesmerizing hilly terrain. This led me to become a fan of Rajesh Khanna. From what started as a single song, I moved on to listening to his jukeboxes innumerable times.  I watched two of his movies (Aradhana, (1969) and Kati Patang, (1970)) several times. Being a  movie and song critic,  I learnt that the songs composed for the character plays a very important role in the actor's career. E ven if the actor does not justify the song with his acting,  we like him because of the feel the songs give us. On the contrary, Rajes...

Taare Zameen Par - Every child is special !

Image
Today, I will be blogging on one of my favourite movies which I had watched again in this summer vacation. It is the 2008 national award (Best film on family welfare) winning film,  Taare Zameen Par . Directed by the actor-director-producer Aamir khan, the main story arc concerns the struggles of Ishaan  ( Darsheel Safary), an 8 year old dyslexic child, to cope with his classes at a boarding school. Although, he is poor in academics, he excels in art. Ishaan's new art teacher (Aamir Khan), find out that he is dyslexic and helps him overcome his disability. The reason why I am head over heels in love with this movie is how Aamir has portrayed the scenes so well in a chronological order and has made it look very natural. The setting is jaw dropping with the boarding school on a hill. Amole Gupte, the scriptwriter for the film, has written the film in such a way that we see the film through the highly imaginative Ishaan's eyes. This helped me understand his hardships and pa...
