My journey to the temple town of Guruvayur - Part 1

This blog is the first in a trilogy about my trip to Guruvayur, a temple town in the Thrissur district of Kerala.I along with my parents, embarked on my exhilarating journey by reaching the majestic 142 year old Chennai Central Railway Station(MAS).We had reached the station early,in fear of getting stuck in the rush hour evening traffic. Being a Friday, the station was overflowing with people, either bustling around to catch their trains or having a sip of aromatic coffee.

My observation about the Chennai Central is that it is not clean and the railway tracks smelled of urine and excreta. There are trash bins kept at places, but not effectively used by the travelers. I would want the management to put down strict rules so that people don't litter at this important landmark of Chennai. In addition, there are no private food joints as it used to be in the past. This is creating additional difficulty for the travelers. A bit of renovation of the entire building has been done with paintings of the past, electronic displays etc., but still a small pie for a very important social spot in Chennai.

I boarded the Allepey Express to Thrissur at 08:55 PM . I had a very disturbed sleep in the train. As a result, I woke up at 5 AM in the morning. On the contrary, I was fortunate by doing so as the train was running late by an hour. The train was moving in the Kerala and Tamil Nadu border, where I could see mind-blowing panoramas of the Western Ghats.

We arrived at Thrissur around 8:30 AM. I was expecting the Thrissur railway station to be a big one, but it was not so with just four platforms. Thrissur is one of my favorite cities in Kerala because it is a perfect blend of the modern day world and age old tradition. The city is also called the cultural capital of Kerala. The city has the famous Vadakkumnathan temple which also hosts the magnificent Pooram every year.

We disembarked at Thrissur station and boarded the train to Guruvayur, which is 31 km away from Thrissur. The train chugged alongside beautiful paddy fields and crystal blue streams and we finally reached Guruvayur, the abode of Guruvayurappan.

In my next post, I will be writing about the places I had visited in Guruvayur town.
Make sure you read it!😊😃
