Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar - The Greatest Cricketer Ever
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. Often referred to as the "God of Cricket", Sachin has captured the hearts of millions all over the world, with his cricketing stroke plays, on and off the field gestures.
Sachin holds the records for the most number of hundreds in Test Cricket - 51, and in ODI cricket - 49. Not only has he accomplished the unbelievable number of 100 International centuries, he was part of the Indian squad, which won the world cup in 2011 as well. His career spanned 24 years. At the age of 16, he made his test debut for India against Pakistan in Karachi on November 15, 1989 and he played his final match against the West Indies in Mumbai on November 16, 2013.
Subsequently, this created lot of interest in me to know more about this great cricketer. I read through his book : "Hero - A biography of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar" by Devendra Prabhudesai. The book portrays Sachin's life right from his childhood until his retirement. Prabhudesai has detailed on the various hardships both mentally and physically that Sachin had gone through in his phenomenal career. This is further enriched by quoting the feedback from various cricketers taken from sources like magazines, shows.
After his retirement, Sachin has played many roles outside cricket. He has been conferred India's highest civilian award, the "Bharat Ratna" for his overall contribution to the nation. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha as well. He has adopted a village named "Donja in Marathwada", Maharashtra. Currently, he owns the Kerala Blasters Football club and mentors the Mumbai Indians franchise in IPL.
In recent times, I watched a video in which Sachin was playing street cricket with few Metro workers in Mumbai during late night. I really envy those guys for getting a chance to play with the maestro.π If you want to watch a film based on Sachin Tendulkar, please see "Sachin : A Billion Dreams."
Though Sachin has retired from cricket, I still get to see him in television for
cricketing/non-cricketing activities, advertisements. Watching Sachin play cricket is a treat for the eyes and mind just like what music does to meπ. The magical chant
" Sachin! Sachin!" that we shout out in joy whenever we see Sachin, will remain in my heart forever. . . π
The God of Cricket lives in our hearts forever!!
Well written Rithvik..
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when India used to lose most of the matches and then Sachin happened and watching Cricket was never the same.
Apart from the great cricketer he is, we should not forget that, he is a great human being too.
