Govinda! Govinda! - Trip to Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala

In this post, I will be blogging on my visit to the Venkateswara Temple. The main idol of the temple is Venkateswara, an avatar of Vishnu. The temple is situated in the hill town of Tirumala at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.

As the temple is 170 kilometres away from my home, we(my father and I) started around 6AM by road. While driving on the way to Tirupati, we crossed beautiful and historic towns such as Thiruninravur. As I understand Tamil, I understood that there was a legend behind the town through it's name. When I researched on it, I found out that goddess Lakshmi once stood in this town admiring the town's beauty. We soon crossed a town named Thiruthani in the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The town is famous for its Arulmigu Subramanya Swami Temple, one of the six holy abodes of Lord Muruga. 38 kilometres from Tirupati lays the Srikalahasteeswara temple,  one of the five main temples of Shiva. It is one of the Pancha bhootha sthalam and is the only temple for the God of Vayu.

After three and a half hours of drive, we reached Tirupati. The town houses the Padmavati Ammavari temple, the temple for Padmavati who is Vishnu's consort. The Seshachalam hills (the seven hill ranges), in the backdrop was amazing as the temple is situated on the seventh hill. We got onto a bus as we started our journey up the mountains. The roads were long and winding as we comfortably crossed from one hill to another. As we got higher, the scenery was flabbergasting. The view of the Tirupati town as well as the neighboring villages was jaw dropping.

Hurrah!!😃 We finally reached the temple town of Tirumala. Tirumala and the Venkateswara Temple are managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). The TTD have done a fine job in keeping the town neat and in order inspite of the huge crowd. We visited the Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swami Temple and the Adi Varaaha Swami Temple as well.

Finally, through Special Darshan ticket, we entered the extensive queue to get a glimpse of Venkateswara. Though we stood in the queue for two and a half hours, we were constantly provided with refreshments from TTD.

At last! we could enter the temple. My excitement was building up to more than I could bear. As a reason I joined in with the divine chants of Govinda! Govinda! One of the countless names for Vishnu. Wow! This was my expression when I saw Venkateswara. I could feel a unique power generating out of him. I felt that he was really watching us and was drawn towards his divinity instantly. No wonder on an average 50,000 to 100,000 people throng here everyday! Though we could get a glimpse of the Lord for a meager 30 seconds, I made the most out of it. Once we came outside the sanctum sanctorum, I focused my mind on the image of the Lord I had just seen and meditated for few minutes.

As soon as we stepped out of the temple, we purchased the world famous Tirupati Laddoos.
As I gorged on it, I found that it was immensly delectable.

Overall, I would strongly recommend you to visit this temple. I am sure the experience will be very divine.😊
