Bonding with nature - ecoLogin Part 1

In this post, I will be blogging on my experiences on attending a school trip conducted by ecoLogin six months back. ecoLogin is a tourism service company that offers activity filled tourism experience in interesting and offbeat locations.

Sixteen students(including myself) along with two teachers had attended this three day trip. We reached the school at 7 A.M and boarded a private bus that had been arranged for us. All of us were exhilarated as we were going to spend three days away from our parents.😜 We boys (six of us in total) occupied the back seat and were talking about the days coming front as well as the fun that we were going to have.

The three hour long bus ride was very lively. It was the first time that the boys and girls in my class interacted together in a friendly manner. We passed time by playing games such as UNO and cards. We reached the Irula Tribal Women Welfare Society(ITWWS) located at Tandarai near the temple town of Tiruvanamalai, 172 km from Chennai. We first had our breakfast consisting of vadai, idli and sambar(Indian dishes). It was absolutely scrumptious! We then went on a trek of 8 kilometres along with women from the Irula tribe. Once again, it was  my turn to be amazed as the tribals knew even the small details about every plant which grew over there. There were herbal cures for many ailments such as kidney stones, sinus, pneumonia to name a few. 😲

On arriving back at the ITWWS, we were each given a cup of lip smacking herbal tea. It was made out of hibiscus petals and many other spices. We were then taken for a walk along the huge sprawling forest like gardens inside the ITWWS by the founder of ecoLogin, Mr. Sridhar Lakshmanan. I learnt new facts such as  that trees have gender and bamboo has many uses. Botany apart, I learnt a lot on insects such as the leech. I was told that sometimes during the rainy seasons, there would be a shower of leeches from atop trees trying to suck your blood.😓

After walking two hours, we had lunch and went to see the Irula women making medicines from herbs for stomach aches. It was so cool! It was an unforgetable learning experience for me. After an fun filled and tiring day, we were shown to our rooms. We ate dinner from a nearby mess (a restaurant).

In my next post, I will be blogging on the amazing events of Day 2 and Day 3. Please do read it !😃
