Captain Marvel

Last week, I had watched Marvel Cinematic Universe's(MCU) latest movie, Captain Marvel. It is Marvel Studio's first female superhero led film; Captain Marvel is touted to be one of the prominent characters in Avengers: Endgame, the sequel of Avengers Infinity War.

Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the main story arc is set in the 1990's and concerns Carol Danvers(Brie Larson), a U.S air force pilot who becomes a Kree, an extraterrestrial species, after absorbing the power of the Tesserect. She is part of an intergalactic war with the Skrulls(another alien species), when she finds out that she is fighting for the wrong side. Along with the help of
Nick Fury(Samuel.L.Jackson) and her best friend Maria Rambeau(Lashana Lynch), she defeats the Kree and helps the Skrull find a new home.

At the end of the movie, Captain Marvel gives Nick Fury a pager(a contact device) which can be used to contact her for emergencies. It is this pager that Nick Fury uses twenty five years later to contact her to save Earth from Thanos. The mid credits scene portrays the Avengers at their headquarters discussing about the pager when Captain Marvel suddenly turns up and says, "Where is Fury?"

Though the first quarter of the movie is vague and boring, the second half picks on speed and left me mesmerized at the end. Here are few reasons why I enjoyed the movie:

1. It is set in the retro 1990's - The 90's is an interesting prospect which Marvel Studios haven't explored before. We have seen them portray characters in the present and they have gone back into the 1940's with Captain America; but the 90's was an interesting pick as it is a blend of the olden times and the modern. The directors have portrayed the time-period with such ease that it made me marvel 😎 about it.

2. Superficial Acting - Prior to the movie's release, there were many speculations about Brie Larson not fit to play the role of Captain Marvel, but boy! Did she prove them wrong!! It was an amazing acting performance by her and Samuel Jackson. This was really important as they needed the audience to like it after the slow start. It enhanced the movie by all means and made it awesome.

3. The Never-Say-Die Attitude - This is one thing which the movie keeps re-enforcing. There were many times where Captain Marvel to surrender but she continued fighting. This brings a good moral along with the movie.

My favourite character is Nick Fury. Played amazingly by Samuel L Jackson, he is the funniest and boldest character in the movie. Through his sheer intelligence and bravery, he defeated most of his enemies.

Captain Marvel is one of the funniest Marvel movies. There is a joke almost every now and then and after the movie, my belly was aching after laughing so much.

If you are looking for a movie with hilarious scenes and intergalactic space battles, then Captain Marvel would be your best choice.
