KER - Part 2

In this post, I will be blogging on my companions from Chennai, the journey to Mumbai, and my thoughts on the city.

Out of the hundred kids chosen to attend the Kids Education Revolution happening in Mumbai for one week, five of us(including me) were from Chennai. One student was from my school and we already knew each other so we became friends immediately. The other three students were from schools in which Teach For India taught. But there was no difficulty in breaking the initial bonds as we found that our topics of interest were the same and could break the ice easily. Prior to travelling to Mumbai, I also met the head for Teach For India in Chennai. She, along with a teacher from my school, as well as a teacher from the other school, were going to travel with us.

Finally, the day of February 5th 2018 arrived!!

I could not sleep the night leading to KER. My mind was full of thoughts and expectations on how KER would turn out for me. Though I had some negative thoughts about homesickness and going to live in a new place for one week without my parents, I brushed them off immediately and said to myself that I am going to enjoy it.

Soon I was soaring above the skies in the airplane along with my fellow KER students as well as y teachers. We finally reached the Financial Capital of India. As we disembarked at the Mumbai Domestic Airport, I was blown away by the airport. It was huge with superb chandeliers and sprawling area. The airport is famous for it beehive like ceiling which was a treat for my eyes.

While collecting our baggage, I noticed that the student from Delhi, chosen for KER had also arrived. We boarded the bus together which was headed for Colaba, a suburb in Mumbai. On our way, we came on to the spectacular Marine Drive, a road which is curves along the coat of the Arabian Sea. It also has the famous Wankhede stadium on it's left.

Though I did not like Colaba a lot due to it's pollution and old buildings, I had my heart in my mouth when we arrived at our destination. KER was going to start the next day!!

In the next blog, I will be writing on the first two days of KER😃
