KER - Part 5

In this blog, I will be writing on the grand day 5, 6, and 7 as well as my return to Chennai.

Day 5:

As a reward for our hard work in the past four days, Shaheen Mistry and the other teachers let us have a free day. This free day was unique as it was embedded with lot of learning. For the first half of the day, we could do whatever we wanted in the hotel. Around four in the evening, we set off to an auditorium in Bandra. On reaching the auditorium, we got to know that there are many NGOs, which just like Teach For India, strive to end educational inequality in India. The KER team and the heads of the NGOs collaborated together for a mind-blowing experience for us students.

All hundred of us were thrilled when we heard that the children of the schools run by the NGOs were going to perform for us. We were given two superb KER t-shirts, one black and one white. I quickly wore the black KER t-shirt and went and sat in the auditorium. It was three hours of amazement as the performances by the kids were spectacular. I couldn't believe that it was schoolchildren performing like this because it looked very professional.

After spending the first four days on learning and reinventing education, it was time to put our new found knowledge to use.

Day 6 and 7 :

On days 6 and 7, we held an exhibition of what we have been learning for the past 5 days. This event was held because we wanted to reach out to many people and teachers. This will help the message of a better education spreads out in a large way. The event was held at the American International School in Mumbai, which is one of the city's best schools. I was paired up with a fellow KER student as both of us decided on what to speak, how to present our topic, and how to make an impact on the listener. The first visitors started coming at 9 in the morning. I explained very well as the visitors complimented me and told me to keep up the good work.

After two hours we were given a break. I went around visiting the other groups. Many stalls explained what their takeaways of KER through fun games. I learnt that one can learn the best of things from the smallest of activities. In the same fashion, two days went by in a blur. After our exhibition on day 7 was over. All of us sat in a huge circle and shared our experience of the whole KER week. In the end, each of us were given a goody bag and a huge poster. My poster had a big photo of myself and about my sandwich business. It was the superb ending to a superb week.

The next day, myself, my companions and the teachers from Chennai boarded the flight and reached Chennai at 6 in the evening.

I will never forget the KER week as it was an experience full of learning and fun😃
