Indian Premier League 12 - My top five moments

The recently concluded Vivo Indian Premier League(IPL) was nothing short of excitement and enjoyment. Most of the matches went down the wire with Mumbai Indians beating Chennai Super Kings in a heart breaking final and winning by one run😭!! Nevertheless, as I remincise about the IPL 2019, I would like to blog on my top five moments of the Vivo Indian Premier League 12.

Moment #5  Direct run outs becoming game changers

This was a major factor in many games; while the chasing team looked on course to easily chase the required runs and start running an easy single, the fielder aims for a direct throw at the stumps and knocks it off before the batsman has completed the run. This leads to a collapse in the batting team and hey! Before you know it, the fielding team have won the match. This proves that all teams have worked very hard on their fielding.

Moment #4 Super-human catches

As I emphasized on the fielding of the teams in moment no. 5, there were a plethora of extraordinary catches in this IPL season. From jumping miles in the air and plucking the ball to diving in a full stretch either on the left or right to prevent the ball from touching the ground was inconceivable!! Every single catch, from Kieron Pollard to Faf Du Plessis was superb. I feel that, not only does it inject lot of fun in the match, but it also gives a three dimensional aspect to it(batting, bowling and fielding)!!

Moment #3 The return of David Warner

I have always been a big fan of David Warner with his swashbuckling batting style with both hard-hitting as well as timing the ball perfectly. After the ball-tampering issue, I expected him to bounce back strongly, and he did so with eight half centuries and scintillating hundred at whopping average of 69.20. It never looked like he was away from cricket for a year as his timing of the ball was spot on. I hope to see more such batting from him in the coming seasons as well.

Moment# 2 Enhanced Bowling

In this edition of the Indian Premier League, I got to see some superb bowling from each team. Whether they were seasoned campaigners or upcoming stars, each bowled beautifully. I was amazed at the way in which the bowlers have exploited the pitch conditions and taken bucket loads of wickets. The three bowlers whom I thought were the best are: Imran Tahir, Kagiso Rabada, and Jofra Archer. I chose them because I loved their bowling style and the way they get the batsmen to stare in disbelief after getting them out.

Moment #1 The Imran Tahir magic!!
One of the major reasons Chennai Super Kings reached the finals was because of the deadly googlies and fizzing leg-breaks Imran Tahir bowled to tie the batsmen up in knots. The wily spinner had turned forty😎 early on in the tournament, but showed no sign of aging as he cleverly bowled to the batsmen's weaknesses. Personally, I felt that throughout the tournament, every ball bowled by him was a wicket taking one. My favourite part comes after he takes the wicket as he sets of on his customary celebratory run while punching his arms up in the air; displaying his youthful exuberance!! I completely feel that players like him make the IPL very interesting to watch and savour.

In conclusion, I had many takeaways from the Vivo IPL 12 but these five moments are going to be relished for a long time😃

  1. Yep. That finals lose was heart-breaking as a CSK fan. Well, we were not convincing this season unlike last season, where you had a saviour in every match. All said, lets rock in 2020.
