Spider Man: Far from Home
Following the end of Marvel's Infinity Saga( twenty two movies) with Avengers: Endgame giving it a fitting finish, Marvel needed a movie to start it's phase four with a bang and Spider Man: Far From Home did exactly that.
Directed by Jon Watts, the movie is set in 2023. The students in Peter Parker's(Spider Man) school who disintegrated five years previously(including Spider Man), all come back and find it strange because they have missed five years. To get the students relaxed, the school organizes a trip to Europe for Peter's(Tom Holland) class. They first visit Venice, where a strange creature made of water wrecks havoc on the city. Suddenly, a masked superhero appears and starts fighting the creature. Though Peter tries to help, the masked superhero defeats the creature and flies away.
That night, as Peter enters his room, he meets Nick Fury(Samuel.L.Jackson). Fury takes him to a secret lab, where he meets Maria Hill(Cobie Smulders) and the masked superhero who's name is Quentin Beck(Jake Gyllenhaal). He explains that the creature is called an Elemental and there is another Elemental made of fire which is expected to strike in Prague, Czech Republic. They travel to Prague and defeat the creature. Then, Fury bequeaths Peter of Tony Stark's E.D.I.T.H spectacles as it was meant for Stark's successor. The spectacles have access to various weapons. But Peter considered Beck as a worthy successor to Stark and hence, gives it to him.
That night, Peter's girlfriend finds out that he is Spider Man and shows him a projector from the battle at Prague. They find out that the Elementals are actually projections and that Beck is a fake superhero. We then learn that Beck is a master at creating illusions and was actually a former employee at the Stark Industries. Meaning to wreck havoc with the E.D.I.T.H spectacles and saving people by himself, Beck heads out to London. Luckily, though, Peter along with his classmates were in London at that time. Peter exposes all of Beck's illusions and Beck dies of a misfired gun shot. Everybody returns back home in a happy state of mind.
Though Spider Man was part of Avengers 3 and 4, his first solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was Spider Man: Homecoming. In Homecoming, I felt that Spider Man was more of a local hero(after all, he is called the friendly neighborhood Spider Man) and didn't think twice at making decisions. In Far From Home though, I felt that he became more mature. Along with the pressure of taking over the mantle left by Tony Stark and confessing his growing feelings to his classmate, encompassing all of that in one character was amazing. The high school romance in this movie gave it a delectable touch as I feel that it helped the movie become well rounded.
I felt that Jon Watts has a very unique style of direction. The movie is interlaced with comedy and though there are few areas where you lose interest for a minute but just on cue, he pulls it back on track either with a joke or a plot twist!!
My favourite character in Spider Man: Far From Home is Ned Leeds(Jacob Batalon), Peter's long time best friend. Ned finds out that Peter is Spider Man early in Homecoming and since then has not divulged the secret(though he was close to doing that a few times😝) Though he was a supporting character in this movie, I felt that on screen, he was the best character on screen. His jokes are not the rolling-on-the floor type but his mannerisms and antics make him very affable. Played delightfully by Jacob Batalon, he is definitely a character you should focus on when you watch Far From Home.
In conclusion, Spider Man : Far From Home is a breezy watch and is two hours of pure entertainment and enjoyment😃
