Taking Art and Teamwork to a level beyond compare: Art@Heart
Following Militvaa, one of the best initiatives I have ever been part of, a year back, I had a chance to participate in an other initiative working for the same cause, Art@Heart. Art@Heart is another brainchild of Kaustav uncle and Lily aunty who head the InkLink Charitable Trust. After we made the whooping profit of rupees One lakh Five thousand to help the children from Kannagi Nagar, InkLink hit upon an amazing idea. Instead of using the full profit, they took a fourth of it and invested the money into buying art supplies and materials. The materials were then given to us and the children from Kannagi Nagar to create works of art. These artworks would then be sold in an exhibition, thus giving us more money. The purpose of Art@Heart was to not only make more profits, but for us to learn a new skill as well as to collaborate and make friends with the children from Kannagi Nagar.
Every Sunday at 9:00 a.m, my classmates and I would meet at school. The children from the other school would arrive at around the same time. The main reason why I loved Art@Heart was that we had a lot of free time in our schedule. We had frequent breaks where in we played any sport we wanted. From 9:00 to 9:30, we would all play football together. We would then attend the classes, eat lunch in the afternoon and leave at 2:30 p.m. Though it was a bit difficult for me to break the ice and talk to the children from Kannagi Nagar at the beginning, I soon realized that they were very friendly and by the end of Art@Heart, we got on very well.
As Art@Heart was a lengthy project, stretching from July to November 2018, I increased my repertoire of knowledge about art. We started off by doodling and drawing whatever we liked. The next step was using nature's gifts, forming amazing works of art by creatively using leaves and flowers. After self-grading ourselves, 'intermediate artists', we moved on to brush strokes and using different acrylic colours. Finally, after two months of enriching learning, we were set for painting our exhibition piece. For the background, we mixed vibrant colours like Yellow, Orange, Green and Red. We cut out an amalgamation of unique shapes and pasted them next to each other. The best part for me was when our project was complete, I looked at our artwork and to my pleasant surprise, found out that our shapes looked like they were joining hands together, and along with the vibrant background, I felt it highlighted what our actual theme was: togetherness.
In conclusion, I had an absolute blast during Art@Heart and I am super happy to have made new friends and learnt some amazing art skills and I sincerely wish that I will have such experiences in the future.
