Indian Premier League 12 - My top five moments

Image
The recently concluded Vivo Indian Premier League(IPL) was nothing short of excitement and enjoyment. Most of the matches went down the wire with Mumbai Indians beating Chennai Super Kings in a heart breaking final and winning by one run😭!! Nevertheless, as I remincise about the IPL 2019, I would like to blog on my top five moments of the Vivo Indian Premier League 12. Moment #5  Direct  run outs  becoming game changers This was a major factor in many games; while the chasing team looked on course to easily chase the required runs and start running an easy single, the fielder aims for a direct throw at the stumps and knocks it off before the batsman has completed the run. This leads to a collapse in the batting team and hey! Before you know it, the fielding team have won the match. This proves that all teams have worked very hard on their fielding. Moment #4 Super-human catches As I emphasized on the fielding of the teams in moment no. 5, there were ...

My experience on travelling to Sano

Image
In this post, I will be writing on my journey to Sano and about the mega event I attended over there. as well. Sano is a city eighty four km away from Tokyo and is located in the Tochigi prefecture of Japan. My father and I decided to go to Sano to watch the State Bank of India(SBI) Cup. The SBI Cup is a cricket tournament sponsored by SBI. It is a tennis ball tournament and is played by corporate teams. This time there were thirty corporates playing in the tournament. The SBI Cup is usually a two day affair but with the skies opening on the first day, it got shortened to a day. Being cricket fanatics, my father and I didn't want to miss the chance of seeing so much cricket action live; hence, we tagged along with my father's friend and gleefully started our drive to Sano. As the driving time from Tokyo to Sano is over an hour, we decided to take the expressway. In Tokyo, there is both an internal as well as an expressway to go to other cities. An expressway does not hav...

281 and Beyond, an amazing read!!

Image
In this blog, I am going to be writing on one of my favourite autobiographies, 281 and Beyond .  This book is the autobiography of one of India's best test players ever, VVS Laxman . One of the foremost Indian cricketers during the 2000's along with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, he has often lifted India from the jaws of defeat into the lap of victory. His most memorable and cherished innings was the 281 against Australia in Calcutta. This eventually led to a series win against Australia after a long time. His career stretched from 1997 to 2012. I had first read about this book in The Hindu newspaper. There were one or two reviews and an interview with Laxman as well. The reviews were positive and were saying that this book was good. As I had not read much about Laxman, I thought that I would find this book interesting and wanted to buy it but as I was busy in other activities, it slipped out of my mind. A week ago, I was in Thiruvananthapuram. I was...

Lagaan - Once upon a time in India

Image
In this blog, I a m going to be writing about one of my favourite hindi movies, " Lagaan ". Released in 2001, the movie is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The main story arc concerns Bhuvan( Aamir Khan ) a farmer who lived during the British Raj. He accepts Captain Andrew Russell's(Paul Blackthorne) challenge to beat his team in a game of cricket and enable his village to not pay the high taxes imposed on them for the next three years. Few reasons why I like this movie are: 1. It is very gripping - The movie has a very nailbiting plot and always made me sit on the edge of my seat while watching it. 2. Underdog to champion story - I really liked the movie because it potrayed the villagers, who didn't even know what was cricket to beat the experienced Englishmen. 3. Amazing Setting - Shot in a village in Gujarat, Gowariker has used the apt setting for the movie as it potrays a dry and hot village. 4. Sublime Acting - All the characters have acted reall...

Indian Premier League 11 - My best five moments

Image
The Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 11 has culminated with a lot of memories. A lot of close and thrilling encounters. As an icing on the cake, my home team Chennai Super Kings(CSK)  clinched   the IPL title for the third time . As I do a recap, I would like to pen down my best five moments in this season. Moment #5: Unaccustomed tactics by the team captains This season has seen a change in the way Captains lead their team. Unlike the previous editions, new tactics executed effectively by the Captains have turned into game changers. For instance, in the Qualifier II game between Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR), Kane Williamson, the captain for SRH kept a forward short leg in order to get KKR batsman Andre Russell back to the pavilion. This move by Williamson instilled a seed of doubt into Russell's mind as he tried to run down the ball from the "mystery spinner"Rashid Khan through the slip cordon, only to watch it go straight to Shikhar Dh...

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar - The Greatest Cricketer Ever

Image
In this post, I will be writing on one of my role models, "The little master"  Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar .  Often referred to as the " God of Cricket ", Sachin has captured the hearts of millions all over the world, with his cricketing stroke plays, on and off the field gestures. Sachin holds the records for the most number of hundreds in Test Cricket - 51, and  in ODI cricket - 49. Not only has he accomplished the unbelievable number of   100 International centuries , he was part of the Indian squad, which won the world cup in 2011 as well.  His career spanned 24 years. At the age of 16, he made his test debut for  India against Pakistan in Karachi on November 15, 1989 and he played his final match against the West Indies in Mumbai on November 16, 2013. In 2012, I watched Sachin playing live in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on television. It was in the fag end of  his career. I saw this little genius getting out for low scores in many match...
