My views

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, many countries are forced to ensue lockdown orders on its citizens; thereby not allowing them to go outside. Confined to the walls of their houses, many people are watching a lot of movies and web series. Let me assure you here, that I too fall into that category; and as being a big movie buff, I have already watched several movies; most of them being in Malayalam. Among those movies, a real gem which stood out for me was the 1993 cult classic movie, Manichitrathazhu . Directed by Fazil and written by Madhu Muttam , this pyschological horror film is centered around a huge anscestral mansion named Madampally; which was racked by ancient superstitions. The family owning the house did not live in it because they believed that certain blood-thirsty spirits are locked up inside it. One day, the family head's(Nedumudi Venu) nephew, Nakulan( Suresh Gopi ) along with his wife Ganga( Shobhana ), come to the village and ask whether they can liv...

Following the end of Marvel's Infinity Saga( twenty two movies) with Avengers: Endgame giving it a fitting finish, Marvel needed a movie to start it's phase four with a bang and Spider Man: Far From Home did exactly that. Directed by Jon Watts, the movie is set in 2023. The students in Peter Parker 's(Spider Man) school who disintegrated five years previously(including Spider Man), all come back and find it strange because they have missed five years. To get the students relaxed, the school organizes a trip to Europe for Peter's(Tom Holland) class. They first visit Venice, where a strange creature made of water wrecks havoc on the city. Suddenly, a masked superhero appears and starts fighting the creature. Though Peter tries to help, the masked superhero defeats the creature and flies away.  That night, as Peter enters his room, he meets Nick Fury(Samuel.L.Jackson). Fury takes him to a secret lab, where he meets Maria Hill(Cobie Smulders) and the masked superher...

Two days back, I watched the most ultimate Marvel movie ever,  Avengers : Endgame , the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War . I was blown away after watching the movie as I had never watched any movie like Avengers: Endgame before. Just five days into it's release the movie has become the 10th highest grossing movie in the world crossing $ 1, 342,689,446 already !! Directed superbly by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo , the main story arc concerns Thanos (Josh Brolin), who after destroying half of the universe, goes to retire in his planet. Meanwhile, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) are adrift in space and in critical health conditions when Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) saves them and brings them to Earth. They reunite with the rest of the Avengers, when they find out that Thanos has destroyed all the Infinity Stones, giving them no way to bring half of the population back. Five years later, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) who is a superhero named Antman, meets w...

Last week, I had watched Marvel Cinematic Universe's(MCU) latest movie, Captain Marvel . It is Marvel Studio's first female superhero led film; Captain Marvel is touted to be one of the prominent characters in Avengers: Endgame , the sequel of Avengers Infinity War . Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the main story arc is set in the 1990's and concerns  Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a U.S air force pilot who becomes a Kree, an extraterrestrial species, after absorbing the power of the Tesserect. She is part of an intergalactic war with the Skrulls(another alien species), when she finds out that she is fighting for the wrong side. Along with the help of   Nick Fury (Samuel.L.Jackson) and her best friend Maria Rambeau(Lashana Lynch), she defeats the Kree and helps the Skrull find a new home. At the end of the movie, Captain Marvel gives Nick Fury a pager(a contact device) which can be used to contact her for emergencies. It is this pager that Nick Fury uses twenty...

In this blog, I wil l be writing on my most favourite hindi music composer ever,  "Rahul Dev Burman" !! Rahul Dev Burman, also known as R.D Burman, was one of hindi film music's most popular music directors and has composed for 331 films during the 1960's to 1990's. He is also credited to have revolutionized the face of Bollywood music. Few years back, I was first introduced to Burman's songs by my mother when she played out super duper hits from "Aradhana", "Kati Patang" and "Amar Prem" for me. And then I fell in love with his songs... Reasons why I am head over heels in love with Burman's music direction and songs are : 1. They have amazing tunes and beats - I don't think any other composer can produce as superb tunes as R.D Burman. They are so amazing to hear and have such an awesome beat that you can just lean back onto your chair and say, 'Vah Re Vah'(Oh! Wow!).😁 2. Wide Diversity - From class...

In this blog, I a m going to be writing about one of my favourite hindi movies, " Lagaan ". Released in 2001, the movie is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The main story arc concerns Bhuvan( Aamir Khan ) a farmer who lived during the British Raj. He accepts Captain Andrew Russell's(Paul Blackthorne) challenge to beat his team in a game of cricket and enable his village to not pay the high taxes imposed on them for the next three years. Few reasons why I like this movie are: 1. It is very gripping - The movie has a very nailbiting plot and always made me sit on the edge of my seat while watching it. 2. Underdog to champion story - I really liked the movie because it potrayed the villagers, who didn't even know what was cricket to beat the experienced Englishmen. 3. Amazing Setting - Shot in a village in Gujarat, Gowariker has used the apt setting for the movie as it potrays a dry and hot village. 4. Sublime Acting - All the characters have acted reall...

In this blog, I will be writing on a classic hindi movie which is also one of my favourites,    Sholay . Released in 1975, the movie is directed by Ramesh Sippy. The main story arc concerns two friends, Veeru(Dharmendra) and Jai(Amitabh Bachchan) who are thieves. They are hired by Thakur Baldev Singh(Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh(Amjad Khan), who was creating havoc in the village of Ramgadh. Few reasons which made me watch this movie more than three times include the location in which the movie was shot in was apt for the story. With a rocky and dry terrain, it is the perfect place for a dacoit hideout as well as hot pursuits on horses. The screenplay done in this movie is amazing. As each scene compliments each other, the suspense builds up. At one point, when Thakur Baldev Singh removes his shawl and shows that his hands have been chopped off by Gabbar Singh; I literally jumped up in consternation  and stared at the computer scree...

In this post, I will be blogging on a legend in the field of music, Shankar Mahadevan . Shankar Mahadevan was born in Mumbai on 3rd March, 1967 . Since 1997, he has sung outstanding  songs for movies. He is the recipient of three National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer. I became an avid listener of his songs when I was enraptured by his rendering of the song "Unnai Kanaathu" in the movie "Vishwaroopam". Three years later, I had the opportunity to attend his concert at Music Academy, Chennai. As the concert began, I was enthralled with the lighting and the sound systems. And in came, Shankar Mahadevan. I was inspired by his zeal and the way he kept us engaged throughout that fascinating concert. The highlight in the concert for me was that he sang one of my favourite songs which is  Zinda from the movie "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag". Speaking of Zinda brings me to the music composing trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy , consisting of Shankar Ma...

In this post, I will be blogging on one of my favourite hindi movies, 3 Idiots . Released in 2009, it was the highest grossing Indian film in overseas markets with a collection of $ 30.5 million!! Directed by the critically acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani, the main story arc concerns two friends at college, Farhan(Madhavan) and Raju(Sharman Joshi), who share a close bond with their friend Rancho(Aamir Khan) After graduating from college, Rancho suddenly disappears. Years later, while searching for Rancho, they relive their college memories. A reason I love this movie is because of Rajkumar Hirani's sublime direction. He has enhanced the movie with amazing scene transition and has shot scenes jaw dropping locations. Another reason I love the movie is that all the actors have acted out their roles extremely well. An aspect I strongly believe is that apart from the lead actors the actors playing sub roles have to act well. I feel that this is made 3 idiots awesome. My favourite cha...

A day ago, I had watched the much anticipated and hyped movie, the " Incredibles 2 ". Produced by Pixar Animations Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, this movie is a sequel for the "Incredibles" which had released in 2004. Directed by Brad Bird , the main story arc concerns the Parr family - Bob, Helen and their children, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack who operate on missions under their superhero identity, the Incredibles . As superheroes are illegal, they are dejected as they can not use their super powers. All of a sudden, Helen gets an assignment from DEVTECH, a multi billion dollar company, whose CEO wants to make superheroes legal again. As Helen goes on to stop the villain, the Screenslaver, she realises that there is an mastermind who is controlling the Screen slaver. What comes on next forms the rest of the story. As I had watched the first movie on Television, I had great expectations for the sequel as the first was mind blowing . I was not ...

In this post, I will be blogging on my favourite marvel movie, " Doctor Strange ". Directed by Scott Derrickson, the main story arc concerns the life of Stephen Vincent Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), an acclaimed neurosurgeon who injures his hands severely in a car crash. Searching for a cure, he comes across Kamar-Taj , a hidden school high up in the Himalayas. Strange is taken into the Kamar-Taj by the head sorcerer and teacher, the " Ancient One ". Under the tutelage of the Ancient One, Strange learns the mystic arts and gets psychic powers. Over the course of time, he heals his hands and succeeds the Ancient One as the head sorcerer and as the master of the mystic arts. The reason why I love this movie is the way how Derrickson has added and used the special effects tool so well. The setting is jaw dropping with the Himalayas as the backdrop. Another salient feature is that the main characters in this film possess cool powers. With the help of their p...
