KER - Part 1

Image
Towards the end of January in 2018, my school gave students from grade 6 to 9, a chance to participate in an initiative called KER . KER, which is the short form for K ids E ducational R evolution, is the brain child of Shaheen Mistry . Shaheen Mistry is the founder of Teach For India (TFI), an organization which strives to eliminate educational inequality in India. Teach for India, which works in seven cities across India, recruits college graduates and working professionals to serve as full time teachers for two years. These highly qualified teachers are placed in low income schools, which do not have the funds to provide the study material to the children. The teachers use their own money for the betterment of the school and use their ingenuine and fun methods to teach the children. Kids Education Revolution is a very unique initiative where 100 kids selected across the country come together to come up with new teaching methods. This was the first time that students...

The Militvaa Challenge - Part 2

Image
In my previous post, I wrote on what the Militvaa Challenge was about and my idea on selling sandwiches. In this blog, I will be writing on my sandwich business. I decided to make the Tomato and Cucumber sandwich and the Corn and Mayonnaise sandwich. I chose them because they are my personal favourites. The cost of preparing each sandwich was rupees thirty. In order to get a healthy profit of rupees thirty with each sandwich, I sold them at rupees sixty. As my apartment complex is quite big and many people live there, I could sell many sandwiches. I went door to door taking orders. I first told the customer what the Militvaa challenge was and its good cause. I then took the order, went home and made the sandwiches. It usually took me fifteen to twenty minutes to prepare the sandwiches for the order, which would usually consist of two Tomato and Cucumber sandwiches and two Corn and mayonnaise sandwiches. After packing the sandwiches, I went to the customer's house an...

The Militvaa Challenge - Part 1

Image
One and a half years back, my school (HLC International) collaborated with the Ink Link Charitable Trust  to come up with a stupendous social initiative. Ink Link Charitable Trust is run by Mr. Kaustav and Lily Aunty who are both pioneers in the field of Fashion Technology. The Ink Link Charitable Trust helps the underprivileged children of Kannagi Nagar, which is a socially and economically backward area in Chennai. Through the money collected, the trust helps in buying children their school books, stationary and other useful items. As Kannagi Nagar faces problems daily, they try to solve a few problems in the neighborhood and even come to teach English to the children as well!! The initiative was called the ' Militvaa Challenge '. Each student(there were thirty) received a capital of 500  rupees . We were also provided with an income and balance sheet. The idea was that we should use the capital amount to start any business we want. We ran our business from the...

Making of Corn Mayonnaise sandwich in my own way

Image
In this post, I will be blogging on my experience of layering and toasting a delectable and appetizing corn mayonnaise sandwich . I will be sharing the recipe and the directions for preparing it as well. I commenced my sandwich - making journey with picking two slices of bread. Humming old Hindi songs, I buttered the slices and layered the mayonnaise over the slices. Soaking in the aroma of the mayonnaise, I felt light-hearted and jocund. This was soon overruled by my vexed grumbling of picking corn from the corn cob. This did not deter me as my mind was fixed on the end product. At last, I could take a bite out of my handiwork. WOW !!😋😉. This was my expression when the first piece of the sandwich went down my throat. A superb amalgamation of the creamy mayonnaise and the lip smacking taste of corn made this my all time favorite sandwich. The crispiness of the bread as well as the tantalizing melted cheese has added to the palatable taste. My recipe is as fol...
