Lasooni Dal Tadka : My experience on preparing this delicacy

Image
As it has been a long time since I have posted a blog on a food item, today I have decided to blog on my experience in preparing my favourite type of dal curry,  " Lasooni Dal Tadka " . Lasooni translates to garlic and Dal translates to lentils. As the name suggests, the main ingredient in the Lasooni dal is the garlic which gives it a unique flavour. I will be sharing the recipe and the directions for preparing it as well. As I had only devoured and relished the Lasooni dal tadka before, I was thrilled  at the fact that I was going to cook it. I started with boiling the water and then added the lentils. As I did each step with utmost carefulness, the joy in me started creeping up my spine. In due time, the dish was ready; I resolved to eat it hot. When I tasted the dal, I had only one thought in my mind, Wooah!!  The flavour of the garlic had infused with the flavours of the lentils and onions. The flavours of the spices had added to the palatable taste. I woul

One for all! All for one! - The Three musketeers

Image
In this post, I will be blogging on a book which has one of the most gripping plots ever, " The Three Musketeers ". Written by Alexandre Dumas, the main story arc concerns a young man named d' Artagnan who arrives at Paris, to join the King's musketeers(highly ranked soldiers). In Paris, he meets the three musketeers, Athos , Porthos and Aramis and they become friends. Together they go on missions to save France from enemies and protect themselves from wily spies as well. The musketeer's phrase 'One for all, All for one' is eternal . An other famous story written by Dumas is "The Count Of Monte Cristo", which is a personal favourite of mine.😎 The Three Musketeers captures medieval France and England in the 1700's. I could understand the political situation in those times; how small arguments can transform into fights between countries! We can also see how weak monarchs are taken over by lower officials. In this book, the prime

A sneak peek into the world of astronomy

Image
Few days back, I had attended a workshop conducted by SPACE in my school . SPACE is an organization which offers hands-on learning experience on astronomy related topics through workshop demonstration in schools. Their aim is to spread the science of astronomy through products that are simple to understand and fun to make. The workshop started with a quiz on space and celestial objects. Out of the four questions asked to the audience, I answered a question correctly and was told that I would be a part of a fun activity. Elated, I turned my mind back to what the fecilitator was speaking about. It was then that I learnt about products which SPACE teach us to make. They teach us to make hydro powered rockets and models of comets. SPACE offers a range of competions and chance to meet an astronaut or an astronomer. Our facilitator asked us a tricky question which was, 'Why can't a plane or a jet fly in space if a rocket can?' Several hands went up but none got the rig

For these guys, college is a no brainer! - 3 Idiots

Image
In this post, I will be blogging on one of my favourite hindi movies, 3 Idiots . Released in 2009, it was the highest grossing Indian film in overseas markets with a collection of $ 30.5 million!! Directed by the critically acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani, the main story arc concerns two friends at college, Farhan(Madhavan) and Raju(Sharman Joshi), who share a close bond with their friend Rancho(Aamir Khan) After graduating from college, Rancho suddenly disappears. Years later, while searching for Rancho, they relive their college memories. A reason I love this movie is because of Rajkumar Hirani's sublime direction. He has enhanced the movie with amazing scene transition and has shot scenes jaw dropping locations. Another reason I love the movie is that all the actors have acted out their roles extremely well. An aspect I strongly believe is that apart from the lead actors the actors playing sub roles have to act well. I feel that this is made 3 idiots awesome. My favourite cha

Bonding with nature - ecoLogin Part 2

Image
In this post, I will be blogging on "day 2" and "day 3" of the ecoLogin trip. In day 2, we visited the "elephant camp" . The elephant camp, which is run by a family, has 3 elephants which were rescued after being subjected to cruelty by their previous owners. We had the oppurtunity to touch the elephants and feed them chunks of papaya. After this, we took part in a treasure hunt inside a forest in the camp. Each of us were given a sheet of paper with questions asked in riddles. We had to find the answers and locate them in the forest. This enhanced my sense of direction and my observation skill. As a cue, when the treasure hunt was over, it started to rain heavily! Thankfully the trees sheltered us from the rain as we ran back into the house in which the family lived. While waiting for the rain to subdue, we drew images of animals and birds using stencils. When we could finally go outside, we saw that the whole forest was flo

Bonding with nature - ecoLogin Part 1

In this post, I will be blogging on my experiences on attending a school trip conducted by ecoLogin six months back. ecoLogin is a tourism service company that offers activity filled tourism experience in interesting and offbeat locations. Sixteen students(including myself) along with two teachers had attended this three day trip. We reached the school at 7 A.M and boarded a private bus that had been arranged for us. All of us were exhilarated as we were going to spend three days away from our parents.😜 We boys (six of us in total) occupied the back seat and were talking about the days coming front as well as the fun that we were going to have. The three hour long bus ride was very lively. It was the first time that the boys and girls in my class interacted together in a friendly manner. We passed time by playing games such as UNO and cards. We reached the Irula Tribal Women Welfare Society(ITWWS) located at Tandarai near the temple town of Tiruvanamalai, 172 km from Chennai.

My takeaways from the Science Fair

Image
Four days back,  there was a science fair in my school. The fair was for grades 6 to 12. We could form into teams and present a concept with models and charts. In this post, I will be blogging on my project and the top three exhibits which I liked. I along with my friend, decided to explore the topic Osmosis . As a result we did the " Bouncy Egg Experiment ". We took an egg and soaked it in vinegar for three days. This caused the shell to dissolve and the egg to bounce when dropped from height of around ten centimetres. Everybody liked our project. I loved it when the vistors could not believe their eyes and thought the egg was a plastic toy. Out of the forty projects in the science fair, I have picked the top three projects which I have liked. Here they are: 1. The science behind the FIFA World Cup footballs This interesting project by a grade 12 student was on the topic of how the model and design of footballs can make a huge impact especially in big stages
