My trip to the land of the rising sun ☼ - Part 1

Image
In one in a series of five, I am going to be blogging on my trip t o Japan last summer. I was visiting Japan after nine years as I was born there and stayed there for two years. I was yearning to go there for a long time and was exhilarated when the time came to board the flight. I along with my mother boarded the Cathay Pacific flight at 1:30 AM from Chennai. The aeroplane was huge and had numerous aisles and seats. As I was inquisitively checking the T.V screen in front of me, I saw there were a number of movies. I spotted the movie Dr. Strange, which was on my  watch list. When the movie ended, it was three in the morning and I hurriedly went to sleep. Though the food was not that great, I had an enjoyable flight journey as we landed in Hong Kong. The transit time was just one hour as we hurried from one end of the vast, but breathtaking Hong Kong International airport, to make it just on time. From there, we took the flight to Tokyo and reached there at 4:30 P.M JST. As

The fantastic trio solve another mystery!

In th i s post, I will be blogging on my all time favourite comic series - "The Adventures of Tintin". Written and created by Belgian author, Herge , this comic series was one of the most popular ones during the 20th century. The main story arc concerns the adventures of a young reporter named Tintin and his dog Snowy. He is accompanied by two of his friends, Captain Haddock and Professor Calculus. There are twenty four books in this series. All through the books, they end up solving mysteries in the countries which they are in instead of holidaying there.😅 Few reasons I am head over heels in love with this book series is because of the action and suspense in the stories. The way Tintin escapes from the trickiest of situations is simply a treat to read. It always blows me away!! The books are loaded with jokes and witty puns and it always make me shriek with laughter!! My favourite book in the series is "The Calculus Affair". I love this book due to its s

Gabbar Singh, here we come!!

In this blog, I will be writing on a classic hindi movie which is also one of my favourites,    Sholay . Released in 1975, the movie is directed by Ramesh Sippy. The main story arc concerns two friends, Veeru(Dharmendra) and Jai(Amitabh Bachchan) who are thieves. They are hired by Thakur Baldev Singh(Sanjeev Kumar) to capture the notorious dacoit Gabbar Singh(Amjad Khan), who was creating havoc in the village of Ramgadh. Few reasons which made me watch this movie more than three times include the location in which the movie was shot in was apt for the story. With a rocky and dry terrain, it is the perfect place for a dacoit hideout as well as hot pursuits on horses. The screenplay done in this movie is amazing. As each scene compliments each other, the suspense builds up. At one point, when Thakur Baldev Singh removes his shawl and shows that his hands have been chopped off by Gabbar Singh; I literally jumped up in consternation  and stared at the computer screen, gawking!

The three great statesmen!!!

In this post, I will be blogging o n my three favourite leaders in this world. I will be stating my reasons on why I liked them as well. 1. Mahatma Gandhi Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi was one of the leading freedom fighters who got India independence from the British. I admire him because of his views on taking the ahimsa (non-violence) path. He insisted on having peaceful marches and strikes instead of using bombs and guns. Thus, with the whole nation inspired by him and fighting for India's independence,  India became independent on 15th August 1947. 2. Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln served as the President of the United States of America from 1860 to 1865. During his Presidential years, he fought for the abolishment of slavery. This lasted in a four year Civil War against the forces of the Republic, who supported slavery. At the end of the war, Lincoln's forces triumphed over the Republic and slavery was abolished. Another reason why

Goal!- FIFA World Cup Part 2

As I wrote about the proceedings in the FIFA World Cup till the round of sixteen in the previous blog, today, I am going to write about the rest of the tournament. The round of sixteen was the deciding round. The teams which lose in this round cannot coninue further in the tournament. Incidentally, Messi as well as Ronaldo had exited the World Cup in this round. While Argentina lost in a thrilling match against France, the score reading 4-3 with a brilliant goal by Benjamin Pavard from France, Portugal was overshadowed by the heroics of Edinson Cavani from Uruguay as the "Seleccao das Quinas" (The nickname for the Portugal team ) lost 2-0. Though Portugal had lost, both France and England had proceeded to the quarter finals. One of the biggest upsets in the tournament happened in the round of sixteen when Russia beat Spain 4-3 on penalties with the match ending on a 1-1 draw!! Spain could have leveled the score when Aspas who aimed the shot right in the centre, hit A

Goal!- FIFA World Cup Part 1

As the FIFA World Cup 2018  held in Russia, has recently concluded, I will be blogging on my observations and some memorable moments for me in this World cup. This is part one of two blogs. Preceding the World Cup, there were shows on the Television featuring cities in Russia as well as the stadiums over there. In one such program, I learnt a lot about a picturesque city named "Kaliningrad". The city has some wonderful buildings and the layout is a treat for the eyes. It is host to the Kaliningrad Stadium which has a capacity to hold over 35,000 people. With this hype, I was eagerly looking forward to the upcoming World Cup. Before the tournament started, I decided to support three teams; France, Portugal, and England. I am supporting France because I like their playing style as well as few members in the squad including Olivier Giroud and Antoinne Greizmann. I am supporting Portugal because I am a huge Cristiano Ronaldo Fan !😃😎 England has many players whom I like

Let's football! - Premier League and Manchester United

Image
As the 2018-19 English Premier League season is about to commence, I am going to write on my favourite team in the league and will share my thoughts on the league as well. My favourite team in the Premier League is a team that is " Man che ster Unite d F.C " ,   nicknamed as the " Red Devils " 😈 . I started following the league very closely in the previous season; I was attracted to this club. When I started watching the club's matches closely, I found that they had amazing players such as: David De Gea, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku under the guidance and coaching of  Jose Mourinho. Though I feel their style of playing is mostly defensive and boring at times; they play with long passes and focus on giving match winning assists. My favourite player in Manchester United is Jesse Lingard . Lingard plays as an attacking midfielder ; I love his creative passes and skills. He often scores goals at crucial times to pull the team up from the jaws

Shankar Mahadevan - A musical journey

In this post, I will be blogging on a legend in the field of music, Shankar Mahadevan . Shankar Mahadevan was born in Mumbai on 3rd March, 1967 . Since 1997, he has sung outstanding  songs for movies. He is the recipient of three National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer. I became an avid listener of his songs when I was enraptured by his rendering of the song "Unnai Kanaathu" in the movie "Vishwaroopam". Three years later, I had the opportunity to attend his concert at Music Academy, Chennai. As the concert began, I was enthralled with the lighting and the sound systems. And in came, Shankar Mahadevan. I was inspired by his zeal and the way he kept us engaged throughout that fascinating concert. The highlight in the concert for me was that he sang one of my favourite songs which is  Zinda from the movie "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag". Speaking of Zinda brings me to the music composing trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy , consisting of Shankar Ma
